A Reflection: The Aging Process

Yes, it has been a while since my last entry. Oh well, the same lame excuse if anything--we have been busy.

So, what has changed between March and now? Virtually nothing except that I have changed jobs - and grown white hair all over. Such is life.

The other day, Annie - my best friend of over 25 years, and I were mulling over that getting old is a cruel process. It is not about losing the looks; it is about facing the reality that some parts of one's body may no longer function well - and you are the last one to know. Every innocent movement can set off some slipped disc, every minor ailment takes eons to recover, and what used to be a simple sneeze could turn to be deadly. And we are powerless to stop the process from happening. So what can we do?

Eat right, they told us. Don't take fatty food. Watch your cholesterol. Exercise regularly, they say. Funny though-- I received a call from a friend an hour ago to tell me that an employee literally dropped dead in a tennis court after a rigorous exercise- he was survived by his 2 wives and 2 kids. He was just reaching 40.

So what does this mean? It will come to us sooner or later. And as long as we are here - be content with what we have. Be happy. Share your happiness with your loved ones. And my personal hope is to live over 70.

Innalillah to those among us who meet our Maker tonight.
